Born at Bowmore, Islay’s first licensed distillery, this venerated spirit found a new dimension within a Brunello di Montalcino hogshead. Its unusual rosé hue harbours dry red fruit allied to peat smoke. Extra depth and richness too, from its vino forebear. Sooty seaweed, hints of sweetness, woody notes in the finale.

The scent of peat. Briny, smoky seaweed, succeeded by ripe red berries. Subtle sweetness in the mouth. Then decadent salty, oily tones. A high-wire sweet and savoury balancing act, perfectly judged.
A laid-back conclusion with a long, rich mouthfeel. Distinguished by a smoky dryness that lasts at the back of the palate.
SOME NICE SNAPS
Scotch fans make many a pilgrimage, but the ‘Queen of the Hebrides’ is a true malt whisky Mecca. The handful of picturesque distilleries on the island are most commonly associated with powerful, heavily peated drams. But exceptions can be found. Potent. Smoky. Fumy, medicinal. Salty tangs. Some nutty outliers.
